Piedmont Residence / Piedmont, California
The charge our clients gave us was to reimagine this stately Spanish house from the 1920s to complement the lifestyle of a young family. They wanted a feeling of modern glamour, and for their stunning art to be focal in the spaces.
Working with John Mallick & Associates architects, we transformed what had been a library into an intimate living room and music room, with updated details and finish on the original oak cabinetry, along with a new mantel and lighting. What had been the original living room was opened to the kitchen as a family room.
Rather than source a traditional rectangular dining table, we opted for a pair of rounds and two spectacular chandeliers from the Fisher Weisman Collection. We upholstered the sleek dining chairs in a range of colors matching tones in the antique Persian carpet that came from the owner’s family. We abandoned the original layout of the primary bedroom as well, floating the bed with a sculptural upholstered headboard that incorporates the bedside tables to enjoy a view of the larger space and gardens beyond.
The fabrics, colors, textures and lighting are stylish and sexy – not your typical suburban palette.
